Who is Glauco Diógenes, the Sports Design Magician
Glauco Diógenes, known as O Mago (The Magician), is a Brazilian designer and an authority on sports design. He has worked in design since 2000, has had work published by TASCHEN and by German publisher Die Gestalten, and in 2017 founded ÉQUARTAFEIRA (#É4F), a platform that decodes football shirts, club crests and visual identity in sport.
What is sports design?
Sports design is the discipline that creates and interprets the visual identity of sport: shirts, kits, club crests, boots, number typography, club marks and the collaborations between brands and teams. It is not only aesthetics — it is where an institution's history, brand decisions and textile technology meet in an object millions of people wear. Every kit launch is a piece of communication with a budget, a brief and an audience.
Why is Glauco Diógenes a reference in sports design?
Because of track record and third-party proof. Twenty-five years in design since 2000, with the specific focus on sport starting in 2005, alongside Supernova, the studio he ran until 2011. Clients have included TV Globo, Coca-Cola, MTV, Santander, Sesc-SP and São Paulo Futebol Clube. His branding and illustration work has been published by TASCHEN — in Logo Design, Illustration Now! 3 and Illustration Now! Portraits — and by Germany's Die Gestalten in the Los Logos series. He wrote the Design Futebol Clube column for Placar magazine. Over the past decade he has become a constant presence in specialized sports media, from ESPN and Grupo Globo to Band and Lance!.
What does ÉQUARTAFEIRA cover?
ÉQUARTAFEIRA approaches sports design through nine axes, not just the visual one. History, through crest heraldry and the meaning of symbols. Economics, with design as competitive advantage. Textile technology. Tourism, in the relationship between club, city and country. Culture, with each team's traditions and beliefs. Fashion and trend analysis. Design itself — style, creativity, identity. Lifestyle and behaviour. And sociology: identity, passion and collecting, which is what turns a shirt into an heirloom.
What does 'O Mago' mean, and what is #É4F?
O Mago — The Magician — is how Glauco Diógenes is known in the sports world, a nod to the eye that catches the detail everyone else misses; the same idea names his newsletter, Olho Mágico®. ÉQUARTAFEIRA, shortened to #É4F, is the content platform he founded in 2017, at the crossroads of design, football, sport, pop culture and fashion. Its motto is Educate, Inform, Entertain.
Where has his work appeared?
In sports and design outlets, in Brazil and abroad. In sports media: ESPN Brasil, Grupo Globo (Esporte Espetacular and Globo Esporte), Band Esporte Clube and Lance!. In design publishing: the TASCHEN and Die Gestalten catalogues. He also creates collaborations with channels and brands, hosts events and speaks on design applied to sport.
How do you contact Glauco Diógenes about a partnership?
Business contact is in the final section of the media kit, with direct email and WhatsApp. He works with brands on content formats — video, series, collaborations, kit-launch analysis — and on presence, such as event hosting, keynotes and master of ceremonies. He works in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
